Ballots and Power: Tanzania and Cote D’Ivoire’s 2025 vote
Two African countries hold elections in late October: Côte d’Ivoire a presidential one on the 25th and Tanzania joint presidential and legislative ones on the 29th. In the former country incumbent President Alassane Ouattara is cruising to an easy first-round win against a soft challenge, making the interesting questions how well the left will do, and what that says about the policy outlook in the longer term.
In Tanzania, too, President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her ruling Revolutionary Party (CCM) are expected to dominate a weakened opposition, but the real question is by how much.
