LATAM | Recovery Tracker improves as third wave slows
![]()
Our Latin America Recovery Tracker (LART) improved by 0.9pts during the week ending May 7. Although less than the revised 2.1pts jump a week prior, it takes the tally of gains to five weeks. Gains were registered everywhere, except Colombia and Argentina.
What you will learn:
- Brazil and Mexico lead the race to return to pre-pandemic activity levels. Argentina lost third place to Colombia this week due to a larger weekly drop. Peru’s recovery remains slow, so it could slip to last place soon as we expect Chile’s vaccine-led recovery to gain momentum.
- Targeted restrictions continue across most of LatAm, but governments are easing limitations as a third wave of infections slows.
- Chile and Peru also continued to lift containment measures. Conversely, Argentina and Colombia extended restrictions as death rates continue to rise. Mobility in these two countries fell as a result.
