Key Themes 2022: CEE is in for an eventful year

After emerging as an outperformer in early 2021, the Central and Eastern European region is set to face an eventful year in 2022. This year should see brisk growth as the region’s economies recover from the pandemic and households begin to unwind their savings. But the recovery will be uneven, with threats from political uncertainty and high inflation risks.

What you will learn:

  • We expect inflation to peak in Q1 and many of the inflation drivers will fade in 2022
  • Following a year of disruptions, industry has turned the corner amid a broader easing of supply constraints. The recovery will be gradual and bumpy and won’t fully offset consumption weakness in Q1
  • The CEE region is supposed to be a key beneficiary of the EU’s NGEU plan, although it also faces a difficult transition to meet Green Deal targets.
