European Tourism 2021 – Trends & Prospects (Q2/2021)

The latest quarterly travel forecasts for the European region produced for the European Travel Commission (ETC).
Tourism Economics and the European Travel Commission (ETC) jointly produce quarterly travel forecasts for the European region. Our Q2/2021 report analyses the status quo of the travel and tourism sector in Europe. Additionally, it highlights the Prospects for Recovery from Long-Haul Markets and analyses the immediate and longer-run growth potential by major source market.
European travel demand remained weak in early 2021 as international tourist arrivals dropped 83% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2020. Improvements in vaccination rates continue to strengthen the upside potential for Europe. We expect travel demand to pick up considerably in the second half of 2021, though international arrivals will remain well below 2019 levels.
