New cruise deployment trends emerging one month into the Middle East conflict

One month into the conflict, cruise operators have responded swiftly to geopolitical disturbances in the Middle East by modifying or cancelling itineraries.

  • The main sub-region impacted has been the Red Sea as the volume in the Persian Gulf and Eastern Mediterranean is still stable.
  • While some ports in the Eastern Mediterranean are seeing increased activity as cruise operators adjust itineraries with volume evidently decreasing for ports in Israel, Jordan and the Red Sea.
  • Pricing appears to be eroding slightly for Middle East-based itineraries in 2024. Elsewhere, overall pricing has plateaued in recent months aligning with the softening economic backdrop.
